We are inspired by Alan Turing’s ask in 1950 “can computers think?” Alan defined the famous Turing test as the machine’s ability to exhibit intelligent behavior equivalent to, or indistinguishable from, that of a human.
The computing industry has advanced quite a bit since 1950. The recent advancements with the cloud, providing access to infinite computing, and the advancements in Neural Networks to improve speech to text accuracy to ~96% is ushering in the era of voice.
In addition, the consumer giants, Apple, Google, and Amazon are making consumers comfortable using voice on their phones, at home with smart speakers and in their cars. It’s estimated that by 2021, 1.8 billion people will be using a voice assistant. That’s 10% of the world in just five years.
Voice is not just for entertainment or search, every enterprise will need to provide voice experience to their customers and employees. Today, some enterprise think that voice strategy means building skills for Alexa or actions for Google Assistant. However, we believe that enterprise voice strategy needs to go beyond smart speakers or assistant products. Enterprises need to adopt voice just like they adopted Mobile and SaaS. If you have any mobile or web applications, voice needs to be an integral part of all those products
Enterprises need to provide voice experience wherever their customers and employees are interacting — on your websites and mobile apps. Furthermore, enterprises need to own the data and the customer relationships. As you define your voice strategy, you need to ask three key questions:

- How well does it integrate within the context of my application?
- How will it improve and reduce friction over time for my employees and customers?
The future of enterprises will involve both employees and customers getting things done through voice conversations. To honor the forward thinking of the great visionary Alan Turing and to materialize his vision, we decided to name our service as Alan.
